CRineta enjoyed its largest turnout in its recorded history last evening for a Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 launch event. 56 people attended the event including people from as far away as Muscatine joining us for the evening. This reflects the growning interest in .NET in the area and the excitement around this significant group of product releases.
Overviews of the new functionality in several areas of the new releases were given by Tim Barcz, Arian Kulp, Greg Sohl and Chris Sutton. They included:
- Visual Studio 2008 IDE enhancements
- .NET Framework 3.5 core enhancements
- C# 3.0 language enhancements
- LINQ
- SQL Server 2008 enhancements for SQL programmers
- IIS 7
Our sponsors came through for us in a big way for this special event. CRineta would especially like to thank Robert Half for its sponsorship of the conference room at the Marriott and TEK Systems for providing food. While both are regular sponsors, their contributions were significantly more for this event than our regular monthly meetings.
We also had a number of meeting sponsors who provided products for our door prizes. They included Microsoft, Infragistics, Red Gate Software, Syncfusion, ComponentArt and JetBrains. We were very happy to have all these vendors as sponsors. Additionally, Geonetrics provided beverages for the meeting. Thank you!
Note that in upcoming meetings, we will be having full sessions on many of the new technologies highlighted during the launch event. See the home page for details.
Thanks to everyone for making the event a success!
