Generic Modeling Tool?

How feasible is a generic modeling tool?

what do i mean by this?
could
adobe products:, illustrator, photoshop, after effects, premiere,
autodesk products: autocad, inventor, 3dmax, maya
pixologic products: zbrush
microsoft products: expression web, expression blend, visual studio itself

all share a design surface, panel maintance, docking logic ect across all programs?

This way building a model based design tool is minimized and can be shipped out earlier.

I've built tools that complete there tasks using xml but there tasks were defined.
But in this case tasks aren't really defined for example:

pspice.designsurface < myhardwaredesign.xml > seeme.jpg
manufactureboard.export < myhardwaredesign.xml > seeme.gerberfile

uml.designsurface < myuml.xml > seeme.jpg
codegenerator.export < myuml.xml > ./

some programs will require more panels then other.
most panels will need custom ui.

this project wouldn't be a one man attempt it'll need a community like codeplex but just want some insight if its even worth the attempt.

I'm sure its possible, but my guess is that there is quite a bit of work involved.  As you said it "wouldn't be a one man attempt."  You would also need to learn the programmatic interfaces to each of the target programs, which may not be much fun :)

Are you thinking of working on something like this?

It was good to meet you at the last meeting.

I think it would be an interesting project. i would like to move into cad, eda type applications though.

by the way

this comment box doesn't work well in firefox. no cut and paste capabilities.
